‘Should I sing along? I find that when I have my headphones on, I too now practice rapping on the subway, though silently. Each time “nigga” comes up, I have to make a decision. Sometimes, I’ve discovered, I wind up substituting “brother” – especially when I’m in public, though no one is going to hear me. Maybe they can read lips?’
